How Gumhop rewards work

Updated

Every task you finish in Gumhop draws one card from a reward pack you build and rolls a finish for it. A rolled finish comes back Common 98.89% of the time, Shiny 1 in 100, Holographic 1 in 1,000 and Legendary 1 in 10,000. Each task rewards only once.

The rarity odds

Gumhop rolls a finish for every ordinary card it draws. The odds are fixed, and each finish is about ten times rarer than the one below it. The finish is cosmetic: the same photo can come back plain or gilded.

FinishChance per pullOddsLook
Common98.89%Most pullsYour photo as it is.
Shiny1%1 in 100A cool chrome finish.
Holographic0.1%1 in 1,000A rainbow prismatic foil.
Legendary0.01%1 in 10,000The Royal Relic, gilded and glowing.

Turn off Special pulls in Settings and every finish is Common.

Reward packs

A reward pack is a set of cards you make: images and GIFs you drop in or paste by URL, plus captions you write. You can also describe a theme, such as “corgis in costumes”, and Gumhop searches image sources to fill the pack.

  • A pack can reward specific lists, and one pack can also cover every list that has no pack of its own.
  • A list with no pack, and no pack covering the rest, doesn't reward.
  • When a pack has images, a random caption from it rides along on the card. A pack with only captions delivers the caption as a gift card.

How a card is drawn

Finishing a task draws one card from the pack for that task's list:

  • Each card has a weight from 1 to 10 (1 by default). A higher weight is drawn more often.
  • Gumhop skips the last 5 cards it gave you while the pack has others, so pulls stay fresh.
  • Turn on No repeats until seen all on a pack and every card comes up once before any repeats.
  • A task rewards once, ever. Reopening it and finishing it again doesn't draw again.
  • If the pack has no cards yet, nothing is drawn, and the task can still reward later once it has some.

Exclusive cards

Lock a card to a finish and it always pulls that finish, with no roll. Locked cards are drawn less often, so a card locked to a rare finish stays rare:

Locked toDrawn at
Shiny0.4 times its weight
Holographic0.15 times its weight
Legendary0.05 times its weight

Where pulls go

Every pull shows a popup and lands in your collection, a gallery that floats the rarest finishes to the top. Each pack can also send its cards by email or push: the popup is on by default, and email and push are off until you turn them on.

Scripts and agents can claim the same pull through the API with POST /rewards/complete.

Share packs on the Marketplace

Publish a pack to the in-app Marketplace and other Gumhop users can save a copy. A listing needs at least 3 images or GIFs and holds up to 80 items, and you can have 10 listings live at once. You can publish under your name or as “Anonymous”, and editing the pack later doesn't change the listing until you update it.
