How recurring tasks work in Gumhop

Updated

A recurring task in Gumhop is a series: a blueprint plus a schedule. Gumhop creates each copy when its time comes, either on a fixed schedule or a set time after you complete the last one, and repeats by day, week, month or year. Between copies there is no task, only the series.

Two kinds of repeat

RepeatHow the next copy is set
On a scheduleCopies land on set dates: every N days, weeks, months or years, on chosen weekdays, on a day of the month (1st to 31st, or the last day), or on the Nth weekday (first, second, third, fourth or last).
After I complete itThe next copy comes an interval after you finish the current one, so it never piles up. It takes an interval only: no weekdays, day of the month or Nth weekday.

Month-end days clamp to short months: a series on the 31st lands on February 28.

When a copy appears and when it is due

  • Appears: at a time of day (8:00 by default), or exactly when the interval ends. A push notification can go out when a copy appears.
  • Due date: none, the day it appears, or a number of days after it appears.
  • A schedule starts on its first date: the task's due date by default, otherwise today.

If the last one is still open

On a schedule, you choose what happens when the next date comes and the last copy isn't done:

ChoiceWhat happens
Skip this oneNo new copy; the open one stays as it is. This is the default.
Move its date forwardThe open copy moves to the new date instead of a second copy appearing.
Add anotherA new copy appears anyway, next to the open one.

An after-completion series always waits for the open copy, so this choice doesn't apply to it.

Ends

A series runs forever, until a date, or for a set number of copies.

Managing a series

Every series is listed under Recurring in the app, with when its next copy appears and how many copies you completed and skipped.

  • Skip this time dismisses the open copy with no reward and no completion, and schedules the next one.
  • Create the next copy now, up to 20 times an hour.
  • Pause and resume a series, end it and keep its stats, or delete it; existing copies stay as plain tasks.
  • Edits to the blueprint (title, notes, priority, tags, checklist, list) also reach the open copies.
  • Each copy is an ordinary task: it rewards once when you finish it, like any other task (see how rewards work).
  • Series belong to a space, so everyone who can edit the space can manage them.
